Tribute - But That's Beside the Point

I told myself I wouldn’t stress.
But it’s eight p.m. and I’m a mess
I really wanted to be profound
But I couldn’t decide what to write about
Something metaphorical? That’d require me to think
Insanity? I’m on the brink
I can assure you I had this completely thought out
I was just too lazy to write it down

It was actually kind of beautiful before
Something about bonfires and melting s’mores
And the possibility of romance galore
But that’s beside the point.

Maybe it was something about the sky
The way the sunsets catch your eye
Perhaps it was about how time darts by,
But that’s beside the point.

And I liked the idea of madmen
To describe how society has been
To that, I’d say amen
But that’s beside the point.

Then there’s the people I truly love
I could say they were sent from Heaven above
At least the majority of them, sort of
But that’s beside the point.

And here’s to the idea of music
And the sound of good acoustics
And the lyrics that shoot me like cupid
But that’s beside the point.

Perhaps it was about Marvel
To Captain America I am partial
His eyes, they really sparkle,
But that’s beside the point.

Then my childhood seemed pretty promising
My duck stories are quite astonishing
But these events are only offering
Something that’s beside the point.

And here comes the hard part,
The part that actually is an art,
Something that’s supposed to come from the heart,
But I don’t think it’s gonna work out.

I should probably establish the point of this
Which will more than likely be a miss
But this is something we can just dismiss,
That’s beside the point.

And ideally, at the end of the day,
I think it’s quite safe to say
I have completed my task,
And I’ve have taken my crown,
This indeed has been a tribute
To the poem I forgot to write down.
