Trench Warfare

Marching two by two, Hup Hup, left, right, left, M-16 fires, death fills the air. Charge my men, Fill the field with fear, Leave the enemy dead in our path. Up, up out of the trench, Lines of screaming soldier, Scattered formation, Blast of fire, artillery barrage; Limbs flying in complete disarray, One, two, three men reach the other side, Machine guns tear them apart. Retreat, retreat! The officer yells. Men turn and run, shelling at their back, Stragglers gunned down, human shield. They make to the trench, get some R&R he says, Tomorrow we’ll try again.
