Tremendous Versus Pretensious

The state fair’s introduction of the speaker was stupendous. Optimistic crowd thought expensive speech would be momentous. He could have been fantastic, but he was way too pretentious. It was soon clear that he was quite solidly self- portentous. Cheap speaker, more heartfelt was the immediate consensus. Easy words were soul-rendering, stupendous and momentous. The pretentious, self-serving speaker, a sorry proventous. Inexpensive one invited back as was clearly tremendous.

Sometimes they are like taking an entire mouthful of salt; you just want to spit them out. Well penned.

Yes, and so many times the one who is not quite a confident, and less of a self-promoter does so much better by sheer humbleness alone.

For sure; one doesn't always get what one pays for. And purely enlightened, selfless...is priceless.

Thank you. It is amazing to me sometimes how much the "expensive" one costs, and the free one or the almost no-cost is decidedly much more heartfelt, and has a more inspirational speech.

I like the big word rhymes in this poem. Were you talking about a politician by chance? They often fit your description. I haven't heard a word from Poetrysoup headquarters, so don't know if they read by Censorship poem. They did tell me, however, before I wrote the piece that the censorship is the work of one person and he (or she?) owns the the site. Whatever happens I'll let you know. / M

I did have a particular person in mind, but I dare not use the name as this person has fervant followers just a step away from goose-stepping.
