Trembles and Thrills
TREMBLES and THRILLS
Her heart shivers
As it draws near
The darkness loud
The footsteps silent
The shadow trembles
Void of a body
A presence is felt
Wolves howl shrill
Is it darkness they fear,
Or that which is near?
She races faster
Than her heart beats
The trees race with her feet
Senses numb
Shadows she feels
The canopy thickens
Her pace quickens
A light appears
At the end of a tunnel
Far as she can see
"That's not right;
A tunnel in the trees?"
She races back
She races forth
Heart pounding in her throat
A light appears
To her left, to her right
She races past
She paces fast
Warnings flash in her mind
Stumbles on a road
Concrete as any
Waves to the truck
Approaching at speed;
Deer in the headlights
The road, red
The truck, air
The wolves, quiet
The illusion, gone;
The shadow, trembles.
