Tree Philosophy

Sit down a moment.
Rest a spell.
Listen to the story
I will now tell.
Life is defined
by earths many trees.
So let me enlighten
you, would you please?

Trees, from a seed,
are set there to grow,
absorb light, which is truth
then they will know.
With water, more knowledge,
the trees then grow strong.
With decreased danger
their lives will be long.

They have family as leaves,
soon, they do sprout.
They’ll stretch and they’ll yawn.
in seasons will come out.
One day when they’re ready
they’ll fall on their own.
For in seasons of life,
we’ll see that they’ve grown.

Scattered to the wind
as children they are,
we hope they stay near,
but many times go far.
Though, they may seem
that they’re far out of reach
we pray they’ll mature
with lessons to teach.

Many times, too,
you’ll see them in a storm.
If you’ve nourished them well
they’ll avoid any harm.
The cycle of seedlings
is to grow then to die,
blink not then, nor waste time,
or they’ll pass you by.

Embrace them, the many,
with your arms, hold them tight.
Offer them comfort
in those long cold dark nights.
Trust them to go
when it’s their time to leave.
But most, let them know
within them you believe.
