Tree

we take the young boys on the sled
over mostly ice to the field
where they run about and smack each other
until we decide on a tree

a gorgeous tree robust with sweet fragrance
ready for our house and then the yard to join
her sisters
in a row

but now our cold cheeks tingle in the warming car
small green spikes stick from one small boys cap
like unruly hair
four sets of lips are chapped and pink
four sets of eyes dancing at the fun to come
when the boxes are dragged out and treasure
comes
alive

Reminds me of childhood and a simpler time. It is amazing how that tree does come alive with lights and other decorations. Fitting for the Christmas season. Karen

Choosing a tree is always one of my favorite things about Christmas, and you've captured the moment here beautifully. Hope your holidays are happy ones ~Juliane
