Transcendence

The robin staring as I stand
near the park bench

What are you looking at?

There’s a winter jacket, hat, scarf, gloves
And a mask covering
his face

The robin staring as I stand
near the park bench
tries to chirp but I move away quickly
maybe it says
“What happened, tell me, I’ll listen”
But maybe it’s saying
“Go, leave this park”
It
Chirped more

The robin staring as I stand
near the park bench
flies towards me with open wings
I say
“Why don’t you fly away”
“Is the sky the limit”
The robin stopped singing and said
“Goodnight”

The robin flew, the snow fell

I gave a dollar to the beggar watching.
