Transcendence

Transcendence Winter strides past halcyon autumnal daze On sweeping ariels of barren hues Brittle bones of blue with fiery breath Sun drench soul icicles marrow like nebula stars When decrepit doldrums descend As winter Daphne slowly returns Her satin clusters, in chilled fragrance, bloom Then flood lassitude with transcendence To intoxicate icy vapors of wistful wandering. Early harbinger ascends above the solstice When vernal visions transcend hibernation Dormant malaise and feeble sight, Blurred by floating cataracts of blizzards, From dark welkins raw melancholy’s cadence flutters To glimpse enchantment in hindsight - The sweet scent of butterflies and bees - As Daphne coaxes a threadbare season Into a blackberry winter of vernal vitality. 1-11-22 Contest: This or That Sponsor: Edward Ibeh Title chosen – Transcendence Blackberry winter is a synonym for spring. Welkin is a synonym for sky. I have two pots of winter Daphne by my front door. They bloom in January.

Hi Neva! Thank you so much! The beautiful daphne does transcend winter's gloom with its lovely clusters of flowers with an unforgettable scent! My grandmother introduced me to this plant and I think of her often as I pass the plants by my front door. All the best!

Hi Edward! I am so glad you enjoyed this, and other, poems. Makes my day my friend! I think we have a mutual admiration society as I always enjoy your creatively written poems! Thank you so much not only for your generous placement but for providing such a great theme! Have to admit it stumped me for a while till I walked past my front door with the daphne in bloom and realized how it transcends winter! Take care. Blessings to you!

Congratulations on your win. A "Beautiful" write. I guess "Daphne" is a flower. I do not think I have ever seen it. Have a blessed day.............

Paula, thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed reading this poem. Yes, Daphne Odora is a flowering shrub with the most amazing small clusters of flowers. Once you have experienced daphne's perfume, it is a scent you never forget. My grandmother introduced me to daphne and I have had it in my garden ever since I had a garden. It can be picky and finicky but if it is in the right place, morning sun, kept sheltered from the cold on a porch with an overhang and only watered once a week it will reward its gardener with an ultra-amazing garden experience. Blessings dear friend!
