Track 1: Set The Mood

There’s an old stereo set up with a vinyl player that has become more familiar with yesterday's dust than the sun's smile
But music never needs a reference it simply is
So I pondered
Every life must have a song that the heart is still learning the lyrics to
A heart that walks the path of the record trying to make a straight line from circles
Recording the needle that hummingbirds the flower of poetry while impersonating the songbird that sang in the church choir
The needle inking memories anchored to melodies replacing the stitches of an unwoven past
A quill turned stylus whispering like a payphone that hums in the key of a conversation you don’t want to end
You ever notice how Saturday feels like the best friend that comes around right when you need
Or that extra hour of sleep after you wake up before your alarm
I think we should get rid of Friday and have back to back Saturdays
This would give me more time to run errands, produce creative things, or have intellectual conversations with myself
For example, “I think I am ready to get back out there”
A phrase that scares nightmares just as much as it sends a chill up your spine
But at the same time, clings on to a hope that only heroes fly on
The last words before something magical or a lesson taught during the class you skipped
I graduated from this stage of life, granted I got held back by my own doing
But you’re never aware of what could heal you when you’re drunk from bad habits
And I definitely indulged in too many shots aimed at my head with the luck of russian roulette
I’ve been sipping on the stereotypes of porcelain relationships
I’ve been the fine china slipping through fingers and,
I’ve dropped the scripted family heirloom
My reflection has worn the halo turned villain that learned the truth of accountability
I’m carving responsibility because life is something that has to play all the way through
Trying to skip to the next song will only have you starting all over
Yes, I had to go back to genesis but it gave me a beautiful patience for the order of souls outside my comprehension
Maturation that understands mountains move but not in a way three lifetimes could see
The extent to which you love yourself is half of the love you can offer
No more running from love there is too much to gain from love
I’m getting stronger with love and this is my Memphis
Because my mind usually tennis sees conclusions before logic
But when I let the record play the nerves melt into melodies
I should of left 5 minutes ago, but I’m caught up in the moment of it all
I’ve been thinking about this since our first date
p.s. Where you and I felt like poetry on vinyl…
