Trace

Not yet revelation,
not yet omen,
not yet flame.
Too subtle to name,
this recognition
from beneath my thought:
I have stood
in this shadow before.

It was the first shift
from pure longing
to the quiet ache
of déjà vu.
This connection
mirrored old wounds,
though I tried
to convince myself
it was new.
