for Eve Roper's The Physical World Around Me Poetry Contest
I’m touched by the wonders of this great world, like the smells, sounds and images of spring: scent of petrichor, sight of blooming buds, the verdant valleys, and the birds that sing. I love summer’s warmth, sand between my toes, taking in ocean’s smell, the seagulls’ cry; rushing out to let waves wash over me and watching sun sink rosy in the sky. I’m wrapped in melancholy for a while when autumn crisply breathes upon my face. Crimson skies greet my eyes at eventide. Fall’s multi-colored splendor I embrace. In winter’s wonderland, I sometimes shiver not just from freezing cold, but from delight to see fields blanketed in feathered snow, and sparkling beneath moon’s glow at night.
