Total Unity

Whether secular, religious, or 'just-let-me-be' Sefardi, Ethiopian, or Ashkenazi 90% of my fellow Israelis agree today in Israel there's 110% unity Behind this statistic lies an amazing fact: For 75 years now, the 'Who is a Jew' question's been asked yet no definitive answer, Israel's lawmakers not up to the task So how the devil can our sworn enemies wipe us all out If they don't know who 'we' are, how can they put 'us' to rout

Hmmmmm Who is a Jew. Seems to me that since The Great Flood w are all a little bit Jewish because the only people left were Noah and his family. And to give you a little boost, The Bible tells us that God said ( I believe it was to King David but not sure) "I have made an unbreakable covenant with My People Israel. Those who bless her I will bless and those who curse her I will curse." (How's that for an answer for ya) A fine write Gershon. God Bless and Merry Christmas. JB

A passionate write, my friend. I know it pales in comparison, but I'm reminded of the Vietnam era. Young people were old enough to die for their country but not old enough to vote. Like saying too Jewish not to be a soldier but not Jewish enough to be recognized. Unless I totally missed the point on this one.

I’m no expert on international affairs, GW…. But my limited knowledge tells me… nuke Iran before it can nuke back. Those hamas assholes will never release ALL their hostages because all hell would rain down on them…. Which is why there is no simple solution. Human shields and cowards go together like peaches and cream. Terry

certainly an informative and insightful read, dear Gershon. Seems like once again no one is content with letting someone 'be'--regardless of race, religion, etc. I agree...from what I've read, Israel's leaders are not up for the task at hand. Your question at the end posing some interesting thoughts and perspective in what I perceive to be a complicated situation. Thanks for sharing your thoughts & have a great day, Sara

It's even more complicated than you think. I imagine the state will never agree on 'Who is a Jew.' ... Doesn't bother Hamas, Hezbollah, et al though. They'll kill anyone with a trace of Jewish blood in him. ~ gw

I always thought it was what you call yourself. People and their religions tend to evolve so that they can live together. Some are not there yet. The night is young. Thank you. Best thoughts go with you.

It's very complicated in Israel. For example, religious law does not accept patrilineal descent. So, if the mother isn't Jewish, the child isn't either. Therefore, some soldiers who gave their life for the country cannot be buried in a regular Jewish cemetary. Imagine the problems there! ... At any rate, thank you for your thoughtful comment, Hilda. :) Gershon
