"The truth stood downcast in the lie"
Naked, afraid of such a deed
The tongue had wagged so much 'twas sore
How should his adulteress proceed?
As she viewed particles of truth
"The truth stood downcast in the lie"
For truth was ashamed to accept
The fault bestowed upon itself
His wife tossed carelessly aside
Her feelings rubbish in his eyes
"The truth stood downcast in the lie"
Truth could not look straight in her eyes
Eyes the window of her deep soul
Would decree betrayal untold
As the adulteress truly knows
"The truth stood downcast in the lie"
