I Almost had it right... the minute I read It :)... I got it ! Especially about the ashes rush down drains of desire... to me tho' the torrents reminded me of tears. Very powerful sentence - it's like artwork... One persons sees it and it means one thing and to another, it means something else... Very Brilliant... MoonBee

When I write especially short verse every word I can has more than 1 meaning..above..torrents..alludes to water/outpourings/brings forth the image of the words torment or torture..cleanse..alludes to cleaning/purifying/disgarding...soot...is a residual/black/disguising....ashes..alludes to the mythical Phoenix/the remains of life/purification again.....drains...releases/reinforces the symbology of torrent...cleansing again etc. Hope this helps!

if you were to read it one way, torrents (of love? or it could be hate?) clease the black soot ashes of (indifference?) down the drains of desire. "drains of desire" seems to be a place you don't want to go instead of the place you most want to be (the object of desire) Very thought provoking.

this has the intensity of swallowing a bullet train. I guess the cleansing is the theme but I'm not quite sure what the black soot ashes metaphor is supposed to be. whatever it is the poem deals with it very thoroughly and swiftly, really as only a one liner can. most intense of you wise one...:)

A clever concentration in just one line, including the alliteration "down drains of desire" Beautiful! Love, Iolanda
