Tonight

Tonight

I think of you the most
just after we say goodbye
the line clicks sharply
you are gone.
slowly my night becomes
pulled from you into
the reality of time and distance

your sun has barely been
enveloped by the mountains
mine has long since covered
herself in comforting green
there are strings of longing
that can not be severed
knotted by the strongest love
I have ever known.

If my spirit were free to wander
it could find no safer home
than that space within your heart
you are my home,
haven from the world
there must be words
to better express my love for you
until then my poor poet’s fingers
must continue the alchemy
of expression unaided.
