Today's Light

Falling backwards the recesses of my mind open to complete darkness. Items hidden long ago asking to break free into today’s light. Storm waves break the sandbar pulling pieces of the world to the dark recesses, hiding the truth from the surface, burying it forever form today’s light. Cracks in the sidewalk draw the eye downward, toward the dirt, mud, concrete and darkness below, waiting for rains to purify and send the darkness away before it sees today’s light. Sleep, never restful, always wondering if the phone will ring, the door will knock, the lightning will strike during the darkness, keep candles lit for today’s light. Truth, elusive as a wandering soul, gets pushed to the darkness, only to be freed by light and honesty. Ride out the storm, stand in the darkness and let life and love back into today’s light.
