Today the World Seemed To Stop Revolving

A peaceful day, people smiling, children frolicking.
Sun was shining, birds were singing,
I remember, I was out walking.
Then my phone started ringing.
Today the world seemed to stop revolving.

A friend was calling
A long pause was what I was hearing
My mind starts racing, as a shakey voice starts speaking.
Suddenly and without warning, bad news is unfolding
Today the world seemed to stop revolving

I couldn't quite believe what I was hearing
A friends life might be failing
Now I feel the tears a welling
As an awful feeling starts emerging
Some one I love who's life is balancing.
Today the world seemed to stop revolving

I rush to be by my friends side wishing, hoping for a miracle to be happening.
See him lying not a muscle moving
Wires trailing, pipes helping with his breathing.
Feeling helpless, what could I be doing
Today the world seemed to stop revolving

I whisper to him, now's not the time for you to be leaving.
There's too much love to still be giving and receiving.
I sit with my friend and keep believing.
He'll soon come back, I have a strong feeling.
Today the world seemed to stop revolving

Wanting to believe this isn't happening
Hanging on to all my reasoning,
Talking to friends and reminiscing
Doctors speaking, we're intently listening.
Just wanting a sign that he's improving.
Today the world seemed to stop revolving

Then the day came, he starts moving
We watch him carefully as his eyes start flickering.
The machines are off and now he's breathing.
What a wonderful spectacle we are seeing
Today the world seemed to stop revolving

Now you're home and we can see you're healing
A new chance at life, a new begining
Now you're back with us it's time for loving and living.
Today the world once again seemed to start revolving.

You've really captured that sickening mix of dread and hope here.. I can feel it well as I read this. I love the line 'what a wonderful spectacle we are seeing', it feels very uplifting. Almost like the joy of a birth, but perhaps even more magical because it's somebody coming into their life for a second time, when we usually only get one go.. It's very well written. And I'm glad it has a happy ending. :)

This is my favourite so far. Exceptional poetry. Many will write a lifetime and not write something as good as this piece. Your writing here is under appreciated. Everything I have read so far is deserving of far more comments.
