Today
Hundreds of eyes upon her
Today was her day and her day alone
The nerves that must have been inside her
You never would have seen
She never once even slightly faltered
A calm as calm could be
She radiated such an inner peace
As if she had seen years to come
A place which only she had dreamt
As a freckled face little girl
I'd never seen such a glow
Come from her beautiful face
You could see love beaming
From far beneath the lace
As they all stood, in her presence
The doors swing open wide
All the feelings I was feeling
I no longer could hide
No more Saturday morning cartoons
Eating breakfast in the living room
No more fixing flat tires and Barbie dolls
Now that she is grown
No more butterfly kisses
No more sleepy time eyes
Today's the day I give her to
The new hero of her life
I take this last walk with my baby
I'll do it humbled but with pride
I'll place her hand in his
Trusting him to pick up where I left off
To always love my baby girl
Protect her with his life
Today I hand my daughter to him
So she can become his wife
