"Let There Be Light"
The comet said; light there was, forever after.
Today began in Mid-July,
When Summer froze itself around us,
Following the wondrous fireworks display
When the New Sun filled the skies.
Darkness fled away,
Taking all the stars along;
The moon she hid behind the amber flood
All night things quit their song
Some declared a New Age had begun,
Some, the end of all we know;
Some blamed God's Wrath for another sun
While others only dreamt of snow -
But all alike were illuminated
In the light of our eternal day.
The only darkness lies behind our eyes,
We have no secrets now;
All seas are warm Today,
Their shorelines ever on the rise;
With salt tears some appeal to old Mother Ocean
To take us back and start anew -
We are too young yet -
Independence Day will never end,
Thanks to the blazing pinwheel in the skies.
