Listen to poem:

Toast

Thick and lush
Buttery hush
To quell the fear
Silence the rush

I sit with tea
Or coffee swirl
A selfless moment
A priceless pearl

Inside my heart
A gem recovered
This wheaten slab
Has rediscovered

So take the joy
Of moment's grace
Imbibe to nourish
Silent space

Breathe in the warmth
Accept the cuddle
To straighten out
Life's crazy muddle

For in this crusty
Blessings taste
In solitude
No rush, no haste

A heaven slice
A time to pause
Seclusion from
Those daily chores

Simplicity's
Defiant fact
In hopeful rest
This soulful act

So lift it up
Let's make the most
To love and peace
We make this toast

An excellent poem Sam. . I don’t get to the Soup as often these days but I’m glad I read this today A pure simple moment of calm reflection and contemplation and hope for a ‘buttery spreading’ of love in a frightening world. Love the play on words in the last line so ..in response to it…. Cheers - Gary

Hi Gary! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. Glad you liked it. Sometimes it's the simple pleasures in life that catch our (poetic) imagination. I too have been less engaged here for no particular reason but friends have moved on I suppose and there have been other distractions.. hope to regain my muse when the time is right. Anyway, good to hear from you. All blessings, Sx :)

If only we could all love with Agape love but, alas, we haven't reached that plane. Someday we will be there, and it will be wonderful. I enjoyed reading this one and all the quotes that you gave as well. Thank you for sharing. Sara K

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.

Dearest Wen x You cannot be leaving.. I won't allow it.. you are far too precious and beautiful. No doubt you have your reasons but know that we love you dearly, many of us, even if we are quiet and preoccupied. Love and blessings to you and your astonishingly moving poetry too. S:) xx
