To Who May Love Her Next

She will remember all the speckles of color in your eyes and tell you that they remind her of stars. You will be her universe. She will hold your hand as much as she can because it makes her feel closer to you. You will eventually seep into her poetry. Slowly taking a place in every word she writes. Soon enough you will be all that she writes about. She will give you everything that she has to offer. Either it be love, lust, or trust; she will give it all to you. You will be best friends and lovers. However, when she gives you her heart, you must be careful with it. She isn’t as strong as you think she is. Her past is an aftermath of a horrific war that was fought for ten years. She still has silent battles going on. Battles of being scared all the time but too tired to care. She also fights the urge to tear open her skin to make sure she is alive; as well as overdosing on sleeping pills to make sure she dies. So when she is having a mental breakdown at three in the morning, sit her in your lap and stroke her hair in silence. She will you make you breakfast with bloodshot eyes and tear stained cheeks to make up for the way she acted earlier. She will ask you if the two of you can go home but shakes her head when you ask, “Your place or mine?” She always seems lost. Always looking for a place to settle in and live freely. But recently, when I look into your eyes I feel at home.
