To Warm the Heart

cold-
      numbing cold outside.
      a star or to
      high in the sky.

heavy snow bending bare branches
the wind-invisible sand
blowing wildly
like so much chaff.

     fire warms shivering bones.
nothing to warm a frigid heart.
