To the Player

To roll tight the coils of friendship!
              I haven’t the fight,
am daunted by your sudden flights
& exposed: vulnerable, recoiling
            from your knowing.

     Yesterday was not the first.
There was Once upon a Time, and Long
                       Ago,
                 and Last Week.
         I have forgotten the Nows
           which saw you retreating.
Too much, you told a friend.

             But what do you know,
                who have no soul?
                A shattered mirror,
               A thousand bits of me,
       Are but my sorrows multiplied.
              Now, in their reflection,
                 I write what I see
