To the Nose That Know
TO THE NOSE THAT KNOW
Whilst we sat beneath the mistletoe
Rejoicing at the birth of new year's first child
He came with a vengeance, covered in brown dust
Yet, chilly like white ice
He said he came in peace,
Yet, he pieced our lips in pieces joined as one
He said he was the savior,
That which relieves us from the scorching sun
But he engaged in a confused battle of nature
Smoking hot yet blowing cold
Have you ever slept at night,
With the menial security,
Of closed windows, doors and duvet
Armed with a minty barrel of inhaler
Then you awake, filled with terror,
That a certain wild chilly beast,
Has crawled under your closed door
Through your closed windows,
Between your covered duvet,
And into your open nostrils
Then you blow with a restrained passion,
Trumpeting like the wild Elephants of Africa
Determined to exterminate the wild beast,
But in the end, amidst the failed security
All you have is a weeping nose,
Agonized from the strength of concentrated blows?
