To Rise Above Our Age

She awakened to a world she did not know
where fair maidens dress the world does show
their charms in unseemly, wanton pose
cast off their virtue ere their beauty glows

Reached for the coach had conveyed her there
Alas! Her fingers grasped but frightful air
Lay her down by virgin clearwater brook
Her reflection gasped, her once-sweet life she took...

We fool ourselves we’ll rise above our age

There lies within this written page enough tragedy to cause one's rage For seeing in the water so clear A sightly form, no longer dear. Oh my, the water must be broken! I like it, my friend. Write On! Bill

this poem took my breath away, Gershon. Reminds me of Ophelia in Hamlet (for some reason). Anyway, well penned, Sara

That's really quite a compliment, Sara. Much appreciated -- even if Ophelia was a wacko job. Peace, Gershon
