To Ride the Heart

I've often ridden Ferris wheels
and even spinning cups.
I've ridden whirling parachutes
that don't know 'downs' from 'ups.'

I've taken train rides through the night,
that zip across the miles,
and airplane jaunts that carried me
to foreign lands in style.

But there is something I would love
to try to do some day;
I'd love to ride my heart and be
completely swept away.

I've known a few amazing folk
who have no trouble there.
They simply jump aboard their hearts
and ride without a care.

They trust that inner core to know
the right thing to be done,
new destinations to be sought
and places they should shun.

I so admire this willingness
to ride one's inner heart,
for those who do will know the best
that living can impart.

They'll soar to heights I've never known
and zip through night's dark ride
with boundless hope and pure delight,
and joy they cannot hide.

Though I may ride my Ferris wheels
and spin in giant cups,
or dangle in a parachute,
when life itself erupts,

I'd rather know that I might ride
my heart to dreams, above
the edge of reason, out of sight
to somewhere ruled by love...

a land where only hearts can go,
where hope and peace are found,
where life's adventures never cease,
and gifts of love abound.

For such adventure, such delight,
I'd gladly set aside
the tired restraints of reason's grip
and jump aboard the ride.

It just takes a little leap of faith. You have faith that the parachute will bring you safely to the ground, now you have to have that faith that your heart will do the same.❤️🎡🎢🎠✈️❣️🫂

Hi Alison, you are correct, it does take faith, and that is what I all but lost. I started this poem many years ago during a dark and lonely time in my life. I had not gone back to it as it always reminded me of that time. A few days ago it hit me differently for some reason, probably because I now knew the results. I took my own advice from the poem and have never regretted it for it was everything I had hoped. I'm glad you liked this one, it is intensely person to me. Thank you for your kind words. Ron
