To My Poetry Soup Family

i wrote my first poem at
twelve

standing on the school
stage and reciting it

gave me pride and
passion for what i knew
was a gift

mama wrote it in her dairy

but grandma thought i
was a hobby that wont
earn money

but my notebook and my
pen were my best friends

every word in it was
alive to me

my sister and friends
love what i write

but i still hungered to be
in a family who love to do
what i love to do

and who knows and
understands how much
poetry really means

am grateful for my poetry
soup family

and i hope they know
what this means to me
