To My First And Former

It was never "your" God I disrespect.
It's the unfair rules you were taught, I reject.
I've learned too many schools of thought
To be held down until I am left to rot.

It was never the real you when you're untrue,
But I see you'll never leave behind your rue.
I felt unworthy 'cause you left me in waiting
For what I hoped would be love's awakening.

It was never what I truly wanted, to hurt you,
But maybe it was just what I needed to do,
To leave behind a dying conditional love,
To leave behind ideas of you rising above.

I deserved better from you at first,
Until I shown my shadow self at its worst.
Sure you were my first and now former,
But my final love is my true teacher forever.
