To Michael

Pain it wells inside of me Its lifts its ugly head. His words they speak so deeply And this is what he said Oh Mum he says, it’s what you said So very long ago It hurt me then, it hurts me still I just can’t let it go The memory is so very dim I can’t remember them The words that I spoke long ago That cut my son to threads. I never could just understand From whence his pain did come His angry words, his smoldering hate That I’ve felt from him so long I’d like to say, if it’s enough That I’m very sorry son I loved you then, I love you now Can’t take back what I’ve done I never meant to hurt you, If only I had known I’d never have uttered a single word I wish that you would know it. I’M SORRY MICHAEL.
