To Memories

Recalling the past and all those memories
 is sometimes awkward and uncomfortable.

Within my heart I remember the happy
as well as the sad and difficult times.

But within my mind
 there is a fading clarity.

Images, actions and occasions tend to drift away
 lost to the passing years.

All that is left, all that remains
of the bonds of friendship, support and love
that once got me through the trials and challenges
 are merely haunting memories.

To the memories then,
 may they be as clear
as we would like them to be
 or at the very least
as clear and real
as they need to be to sustain us.
