To know the true version of yourself

is to know
the semblance
of meaning
in a resolute
and dry desert
when you are stuck
in a rainforest
where everything
flourishes
in borrowed time.

“I was adored once
too.”

Outside
poetry,
literature,
and art,
things aren’t pretty.

But these words
stay written,
longer than
forgotten.
