To Keep Foever
It's funny how I hide in the seam of your smile
Or the frown lines of worry on your face
You carry a bit of me in your pocket
The sea glass worn smooth
And now the color of grey stone
It's funny how I carry you inside my purse
A love note kept to find on random days
I see you in the laundry laid on my bed
washed earlier while I was at work
and brought in fresh with the smell of you
It's funny how you feel the times I wake too early
knowing I get restless with thoughts
And I roll quietly out of bed so not to wake you
to sit and breathe the morning emptiness
while I listen to your peaceful dreaming
It's funny how I write poetry you don't read
but is written for you anyway
While walking the beach in the morning
To look forward to your smile in greetings
whenever I return from the places I go
It's funny how we met on a balcony in Mexico
And took a couple years to acknowledge
That we were smitten with each other
How our love grew on that bus ride in search
Of our at last partner to keep forever
