To Hear Or Not To Hear

As we have two hearing aids
on each side of our head
so to gain good advice and wisdom
but do we submit to what's said?

Much good counsel comes to us
so much more we throw away
we bring trouble upon ourselves
by treating such as straw bailed hay

We remember our mothers repeated word
are you listening to me?
so often saying yes but thinking no
by doing so turning the wrong key

As we look back over life
much more would have been our gain
if we had listened with greater attention
so to fill richness to our brain

Human nature has that nasty bias
to want what feeds only self
such is our distorted mind
it couldn't be anyone else
