To Have It All
He sits alone
A solitary existence
Lost in his own thoughts
Bound by lies he himself created
To have it all he wanted
Why couldn’t he?
Why shouldn’t he?
His past self
Entirely a different man
Happy smiling
A sociable chap
Surrounded by love
To have it all he wanted
Why couldn’t he?
Why shouldn’t he?
The grass is greener on the other side
He foolishly believed
A secret affair, a thrill
Her beauty captivated him
He saw her and he wanted her
To have it all he wanted
Why couldn’t he?
Why shouldn’t he?
Not a thought of consequence
Or the enormity of the risk
Enthralled in excitement
He had her in his arms
She made him feel like a man
To have her was all he wanted
Why couldn’t he?
Why shouldn’t he?
The man continued to live a lie
Many years went past
Many women
An Adonis he believed
He kept his secrets hidden well
To have it all he wanted
Why couldn’t he?
Why shouldn’t he?
He was confident, strong
He got complacent and got caught
Exposed as a cheat for all to see
He became an outcast
Expelled from the marital home
To have it all he wanted
Why couldn’t he?
Why shouldn’t he?
His actions had consequence
The hard way he found out
Now sleeping alone
In a hotel room
Wounded by the lies he himself created
He wanted it all
He had it all
Now he has nothing
The consequence told
