To Every Bean, a Season

It's not for a single bean, I toil.
I set an army in a pot to boil
for two hours in a roiling sea -
to my stomach, a cruel eternity.

Like every son and daughter,
a bean longs for calmer water,
but this huge leguminous glut,
will not find it inside my gut.
