To Each His Own

My sister and I have different personalities Never alike, two peas from the same pod, but not germinated for the same Winter crop. We never argue over mundane trivialities. I like halibut, but she always chooses cod, and I prefer vacuuming; she loves to mop. But there is only one topic we cannot discuss Our political views caused too many disputes We disagree on the qualities of a President and had heated debates. Oh, how we did fuss! When I said Trump was immoral and in cahoots with crooks, and he was a stubborn old cuss. She fired back that Biden was senile, much too old and she didn't like Kamala, which made me sigh. Round after round we boxed, in verbal objections. She watched the numbers as voters were polled and I wanted scissors to cut off Trump's red tie and no more commercials for Presidential elections. Finally, I said, "Our bickering is tearing us apart." She agreed for the need to put an end to our feud. We're both much happier, but once in a while she'll mention his name, and I'll say, "Don't start!" I'd never vote for a man who's crude and lewd. I can't understand why she can't see that he's vile. We'll never agree on which man is most deserving or which one truly lives by America's Constitution. We avoid politics when we come face to face. But I know Trump is unfit, and is totally self-serving Biden isn't perfect, but Trump started a revolution. He made a mockery of the office. Such a disgrace. Yes, I blame him for inciting the Capitol subversion But didn't say a word to her so we'd keep the peace Sometimes it's still difficult not to interject a belief so we talk about taking a pleasant holiday excursion perhaps to the Caribbean or to the isles of Greece. I'm just glad that we found a way to stop the grief.

You are so not wrong "Trump was immoral and in cahoots with crooks, and he was a stubborn old cuss." I am totally aghast that my own sister wears a Trump bracelet; we cannot speak of politics or religion, and we are "identical" twins.

Arguing over politics in the family is the worst!!! I refuse to do it. Thanks for your thoughts.

You had me, both of you at "and I prefer vacuuming; she loves to mop." Now yes I am biased, so let me try to say like this, I have always respected different views, both left and right, I have admired all Presidents, as they all had strengths and no one is perfect, to be honest Trump was better for my own interests, yet I would have chosen Biden, not because he is the best or perfect, but we needed to come back to basic decency and stability. Is not easy balancing all this with family!

Hi. I can’t always respect the views of others, but I DO respect their right to have them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.

Thanks so much, Karen. Politics and any other disagreement is not worth losing a relative or friend.

When there is two different politicians, you'll never agree who's best

One small difference is this, Biden is a team, not only him, where as Trump ignored his team and advisors, this small detail makes a huge difference :)

At the moment, Victor, I'd say neither. In a country of millions, were those two the best options? I think not. Thanks.

Jenna, I think this very disagreement has torn many families apart over the past five years. So sad. All of my family are Trumpsters, but I cannot stand him, so we simply never broach the subject when we are all together. All of them claim to be fine Christians, so I cannot understand how they could support a man like DJT!

I feel exactly the way you do, Milt. With him it was a case of the blind leading the blind, but now that he's out of office, they're still blind! Thanks for stopping to read me.

And writing poetry helps also, Jenna. Having no siblings i still managed to find enough to disagree about, especially here on soup, where opinion sadly is not always intelligently resolved as your own. Enjoyed the poem, love the common sense.

Hello Jenna ... politics is a horrible beast and when said and done, in a democracy those who run our countries are the hidden public servants, but we as voters argue the toss in hope we can get the message across but mostly they fall on deaf ears. Go on that holiday together Jenna - Lindsay

Hi Lindsay. You're right, but some act like we should be subservient to them. We really are planning a holiday! Thanks for your kind remarks.

This stuff sure isn't easy... Only thing I know just as hard right now is when there's one, and only one, in the family who won't get vaccinated --- and everybody's living together. That's rough too. Good luck staying friends with your sister: Blood is thicker than water...

That surely would be a difficult situation. My sister and I may put on the boxing gloves once in a while, but we'll always find ourselves on the same side over things that really matter. Thank you, Gershon.

"I'm just glad that we found a way to stop the grief." Best decision, Jenna. I and my sister are very different too - I loved reading, she detested reading; She loved sports, I avoided - Ha ha ha! Sisters can be very different. Love and best wishes ~ Mala

You are wise to agree to disagree jenna, politics and also religion can bring about such conflict in relationships as can money hence the reason my sister doesn't speak to any of us now lol:-) hugs Jan xx

So sorry you and your sister are estranged, but the love of money is the root of evil. Thanks for leaving your comment, Jan.

Politics are such a touchy topic, you spoke to it quite delicately and beautifully. Presidents shine when they make decisions in everyone's best interest, or try to.

It is very touchy and not worth the rifts it can cause, especially among families. Thanks for liking this one, Robert.
