To Dust
The earth gladly receives what it once gave,
A quiet fated journey to the grave;
From dust born, dust we`re, to dust we return,
A lesson that at long last all hearts learn.
The flesh will fade, the bones in time decay,
Slowly turning to comely cosmic clay,
Leaving all behind with a mournful sigh,
Just nature's timeless truth beneath the sky.
The breath we heave, an ephemeral tide,
Will one day slowly cease and jolt aside;
The heartbeat, a tranquil temporal drum,
Will to dust and silent stillness succumb.
The mightiest monarch, the humblest soul,
All through this reality path must stroll,
Carrying in their grave but their good deeds,
Leaving behind, but memories, indeed.
Laughter shared amidst dear ones, tears that fell
Turn to a story, that the winds will tell;
The artistic hand, the swallowing tongue,
To earthly dust, they are at day`s end flung.
The mighty oak as well as the weak reed,
Will yield to the earth's immutable creed;
The laborious ant, the soaring bird,
By this same absolute rule, are all stirred.
No earthly being can truly withstand
The levelling of time across the land;
No passionate prayer, no poignant plea,
Can alter this realm of reality.
It is in the soil that we find our rest,
Turning to tranquil dust truthfully blessed,
Where the phantom of peace prevails and blooms,
Emerging from the silence of the tomb.
So let us live with a kind open heart,
And play with grace and love our destined part.
Until the last immutable descent,
To where after our journey, we`ll be sent.
For in this returning from dust to dust,
Resides a silent solemn sacred trust,
A promise whispered, old but ever true,
That life's essence will appreciate through.
