To Dust

The wind that carries my soul
moves through the mists of time
sweeping all that lies beyond the horizon
toward the gates of forever
gates guarded by the breath of millions
    who have turned to dust
their bones vanishing across life's tapestry
to feed the earth's endless cycle
of dust returning to dust
in the bottomless well of illusions
dreams rise and gather in the stillness of silence
drawing answers from wandering shadows
that drift toward the gate, seeking the unknown
there the dust of life rests
scattered upon sacred ground
waiting to be made whole again
    shaped by love
placed in life's fiery kiln and reborn

what delightful imagery and flowing words. I especially liked "drawing answers from wandering shadows that drift toward the gate, seeking the unknown there the dust of life rests scattered upon sacred ground I appreciate the spiritual, almost mystical nature of your poem. wishing you well.

This gave me goosebumps dear Frederic, for some reason it is terrifyingly beautiful, and so very deeply moving! The cycle of life where we return and so much more can be felt as i read this poem! Theres power in your introspection! You amaze me and impress me! I especially love the lines " in the bottomless well of illusions dreams rise and gather in the stillness of silence drawing answers from wandering shadows" how deep is that? My take on this same prompt was very different! And I feel like your poem perfectly depicts the prompt so eloquently! I am in awe! Best wishes! Pleasure reading ~ Sending you light always

"life's fiery kiln" ohh the ravishing imagery here! Absolutely has me enthralled! The eternal truth of being broken down to dust and then framed by flames again, that lets us rise like a phoenix.. "that drift toward the gate, seeking the unknown there the dust of life rests" yes to be reborn again.. this is absolutely breathtaking, Frederic.. wonderfully done for the contest, sending you light and best wishes ~
