To Drink So Deep

Events are canceled day and night No sports, no concerts, wrong or right Right now it's hard to see the light Pandemic frenzy grips us tight The college campus' shutting down Though no one's going out-of-town Most folks are wearing surly frowns The joy of laughter does not sound Despite all this we're still in love We gaze in awe at stars above And marvel at the song of doves To drink so deep of nectars of The gods of pleasure and embrace From all but us they've hid their face

It’s a little bit crazy and people are genuinely scared here in the USA. Well written GW. Kelli.

I cannot believe that Chicago and Boston cancelled their St Patrick Day parades! Well penned, I think you should add a verse about that though. Will they still dye the river green?

I can hardly believe that you can't believe it. Parades can be rescheduled; lives cannot be reclaimed. :) gw

After researching the Spanish flu for a poem, I realised these viruses are clever little lifeforms and if under attack from vaccines etc can mutate with similar viruses and be ten times stronger, as what happened with the Spanish flu, the first wave made folk ill but died out, but later the same year 1918, came back with a vengeance and took over 50 million lives. We should follow Italys lead and restrict all movement now But then it would make folks lose money, take it from me they are going to lose a hell of a lot more before this one dies out. Well written sonnet Gershon. Tom

As I type these words, oil is flirting with under $30 a barrel, the stock market is in free-fall, cruise lines have shut down, professional sports are cancelling thousands of games, the airline and hotel industries are in serious trouble. Bottom lines: Let us lose money instead of lives! Trump actually said this. although no one will give him any credit for doing so. Thanks, Tom

Your sonnet is rhyming beautifully, even though the theme is alarming.. We love all but fearing our fellow humans..
