To Be Empty

We are naught but glasses
Half empty trying to fill each other
When we know one of us will walk away drained
Hoping someone, somewhere
Will tell us that we’re special
That we aren’t half empty
We’re half full.

And so this is why
Despite my resistance
Despite my disagreeing with the mirror
I run towards you with open arms
Hoping the force in you
Will bring me to my knees

Will awaken me
Turn me into a fervent fire
Ripe for ashes
Knowing what it feels like
To be half full.
For you to be half full.

And forgetting
What it feels like
To be empty.

Wow. Iris this is incredible. I have not connected with a poem on such an emotional level in a long time, but this, this is not just poetry. It's pure and raw emotion that can be felt so deeply. You are such an amazing poet and you have a beautiful way of expressing such well known feelings.

Thank you so much Kacie! If one reader out of millions has this response to something I created I must be doing something right. Your compliments are much appreciated. People like you keep me writing and bottle the lightning in my inkwell.
