To a Siren

You enchanted

With the things you wrote

Your words

Held me like a Siren’s song

And drew me into love

With you sight yet unseen

Until

When I had lost my meagre strength of will

You showed me who you were

So lavished on me

all but all of you

it would have been ungracious to try to claim the rest

That failure then was mine

And only mine

A poor thing all my own.
