'tis Easier That Way

Somehow I’ve failed myself, Writing simpering verse; Finding refuge in not thinking Nor letting angry thoughts invade, Destroy this fragile mind; ‘Tis easier that way. Somehow I’ve lost myself, Letting fairy-tale lives become more real Than me, than my own existence; ‘Tis easier that way to live In this fractured life, to exist In this broken wave of madness. Where is the solace, the peace, The cooling waters that will heal, That will temper this betrayal Of thoughts gone wild, racing to be heard. Somehow, I’m still in here, Small, detached, observing This dangerous turn, this devastation; ‘Tis easier that way to live While demons take control.

Deb, we really do seem to think alike. It is easy to get lost in the make-believe world and avoid serious thinking about things that are unpleasant. Somehow, however, those nagging thoughts seem to catch up to us. You're a very good writer and this poem is an example of how free verse should be written. Your thoughts flow well.

You've given me high praise, Carolyn. I appreciate you so much. This poem flowed rapidly from the pen and barely needed any editing. So in that regard, it was easy to write. On the other hand, it's very hard for me to go back and read this poem. Perhaps unlike any other work I've posted on this site, this poem speaks truly. Thank you.
