Tired mother's plea

Oh mammy, what time is it now?
Where is Daddy?
At the Horse and Plough 

Will he be home
When we have our tea?
Mum shook her head, that's unlikely 

Will he be home
Before I go to bed?
I doubt it today, the tired mother said 

Will he be home 
In the cold light of day?
I hope not, I overhear my mother say
