Timmy Has Fallen Into a Well Again
Timmy Has Fallen Into a Well
By Elton Camp
Lassie and Timmy are quite a pair
Collie dog and boy with blond hair
They live on a most dangerous farm
Which has plenty of chances for harm
Adding to the boy’s peril I must mention
His parents give his safety little attention
Though to accidents he has proven prone
They seldom check to see where he’s gone
“May I go out into the woods to play?”
Why sure you can, son, just any old day
With Lassie along, you should do fine
If there’s any trouble she’ll give a whine
One big danger we really must tell
You must not go near the deep well
We went out there only last week
Found boards over top were weak
We passed it by with a grin
Only an idiot would fall in
For the unwary child to tell
Sign says, “Beware old well.”
But into the well Timmy did fall
To his dog, Lassie, began to call
I think I have been hurt very bad
Please go and find Mom and Dad
The dog understood what she heard
She is a superintelligent canine nerd
Complex commands are easy to obey
Goes to bring his parents, right away
Back to the farm she will quickly bound
Barks with fury, whines, and turns around
“Paul, Lassie wants us to follow her,”
Let us see what is up with that old cur
“Ruth, I guess you may be right.
Timmy’s probably in some tight.
Of that risk find it hard to doubt
Always trouble when he goes out
The next time he wants to run free
They let him go, happy as can be
Lassie comes back without her friend
Timmy has fallen into the well again.
