Time Warp
They say you can’t
Go home again.
But I did.
Not a good decision!
There’s a time warp
Between then and now.
Things shrink in size.
Memories shatter
In the light of now.
Where is the couch I hid
Behind to read
So I didn’t have to
Go out and play?
Where is the tree I
Loved to climb?
The people are gone.
The rooms are empty.
Even the shadows are gone.
No sense of the place
Where I grew up,
The one I remember.
Now my mind wrestles
With the warm
And lovely
Pictures in my mind
And the harsher reality.
And I wish that
I had paid attention
To that old adage
Because it’s true.
