Delightful cleverness in this - I love that the title tells all so that the poem can be a conversation snippet. Just like the best memories of life are the most simple bits that don't make the headlines - you're on to something with this kind of thinking and I'm happily tuned in :)

Thanks Dilly, one of my personal favourites this one, it says everything and nothing about life, using the mayfly was absolutely essential in making it work, cheers David

Brilliant, David. Love the 'mayfly' in your title: it makes me think how short life is. Love the implication in l.2 that we are responsible for the quality in our life, otherwise life is just something that happens to us. A pleasure to find your wonderful poem published in the 2020 PS Anthology ~

It’s a case of blink and you miss it, surprised you found it at all in the vastness of the the anthology, but you did, I really like this one myself, was a joy when it came together, thank you so much for highlighting the poem to me Line, cheers David

Your poems timeline poses the questions after or once gone because it states How was it meaning it's gone A day in the life that went to fast Passed by in the blink of an eye Expected more Should have done more The point being or i took David was something must remain after to ask

Now you get it perfectly it’s amazing how much meaning you can get from a few lines once the context is understood, yeah Monty python can have this one for a sketch cheers David

On reflection David now you are quite right it's very deep and my earlier comment payed it a disservice I can imagine this being played out in a satirical comedy sketch format. Im now imagining it in a different context , 2 soldiers in no mans land laying dying with nothing else to do but ask each other So how it for you Yeah me to i expected more What was the point

Sorry David i misunderstood the point you were trying to make or didn't understand exactly what a mayfly was

I chose this one for the question the meaning of life poses, it’s shallow but very deep, and was my personal favorite

The mayfly only lives for a single day it mates lays it’s eggs then dies, I was imagining two mayflys on the ground dying asking each other how was their life, hence the expression I was expecting more, but just had to accept the fact they only had a day, I was trying to put a human spin on it, cheers David
