Time and Its Sad Afterglows

Time and Its Sad Afterglows

porch swing, one old dog
green pasture and fallen barn
dawn's light, empty house

The tenderness of your thoughts leave the heart feeling alone, yet memories will always be. A sad afterglow certainly does remain. ~ Maia

Robert, your title is so fitting for the story you tell in this amazing haiku; and this image you so vividly painted will stay imprinted in my mind! Excellently written, as every other piece that flows from your eloquent, talented pen! Hugs and love. Pandita

Thank you my good friend. I have lived a very interesting life, primarily because of my very wild and reckless youth, rebellious nature , anger at this dark world and many romances over the course of my life. I did see the sorrow in that dog's sad eyes and the defiance when I tried to get it to abandon its loyal post on that front porch.

Thank you my good friend. Such was once a reality, when as a teenager I visited a friend's house, a few days after he and his family moved to Texas... Apparently the dog had been left behind.. I tried to get the dog to follow me to my house but it wouldn't budge!

You are talking about me... an old man, a dark room, and an empty house...

So much said with 3 little lines...best haiku I ever read, Robert. It deserves a painting to go with it.

My dear friend Robert, a poignant portrayal of the lonely passage of time and all that is left behind. A vivid and sadly beautiful haiku my wonderful friend. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Thank you my dear friend. My muse danced with me on this haiku and even sang a song to wake me up!

Nostalgic - beautifully brought out in your Haiku - makes me try and imagine the happy times the people had there and a sad thought of why they left. A great haiku Robert it touched the right note...Maria hugs
