Time
Imagine if we stopped measuring time
if we stopped portioning it off
into seconds
minutes
hours
days
months
years
decades
centuries
if we stopped recording and celebrating
the passage of time
constantly reminding ourselves
of how much we’ve used up
of how much we have left
as we tally up the time that we’ve had
and that tally becomes ever larger
we cannot help but give some thought
to what century, decade, year, month
day, hour, second
our time will run out
imagine if we did none of it
and our only reference to time
was day-time
and night-time
what if we gave absolutely no consideration
imparted no meaning whatsoever
to the hour of the day
the day of the week
the week of the month
the month of the year
the year of the decade
the decade of the century
what if there was just
day time
and night time
time awake
and time asleep
would we then perhaps
make better use of it.
