Thyself

Anxiety and shame riddled my youth and I just wanted to belong
The desire to excel and conform was beyond measure
The painful difficulties of youth are rarely validated
Being told to follow your hero but blaze your trail
Follow the shadow but color inside the lines
Neverendingly seeking the rightly wise
I finally woke up one day and realized
When you exhaust help in others
Turn from them and the world
Sometimes it is best to revert
And seek wisdom from who?
Thyself.
