Through the Eyes of a Neglected Child
I cling to mother
with unconditional love
arms wrapped around tight-
immune to pain of neglect
my bond knows no other way
Eyes steadfast in gaze
upward turned to mother's face
searching for comfort-
the innocence of my heart
sees only this, my mother
I see not the truth
the hours left unattended
many missed feedings-
imprinted with nature's bond
my eyes of a child see love
My eyes of a child
watch closely for survival
matter not the cost-
nature grants me this lifeline
I hold on tight, good or bad.
